Bret Hudson and I have learned a lot about game development over the years, and as we continue to grow we want to help others do the same. In 2011, we created indie(Function); with some of our friends. We aired our first indie(Radio); broadcast on June 11, and the first digital magazine went out on June 19.
indie(Function); has had many projects over the years, including two magazines, two blogs, two versions of a social network, and a podcast that's streamed and recorded live.
This is that podcast.
indie(Radio); has given Bret and I the opportunity to interview dozens of inspiring, talented people. Our list of guests includes the duo behind Game Jolt, the man who created Braid and The Witness, and far too many other amazing people who have let us ask them silly questions.
One project that we both put quite a bit of work into for indie(Function); was Indie Burst. This website was a micro-blogging platform that was focused on the needs of indie games, both for the developers and the gamers.
We created two different versions of Indie Burst. The first was released in early 2012 and used this... shall we say... distinctive green hue.
We rewrote it from scratch a couple years later, and ended up with something eerily similar to Twitter. Too similar. It did have the lovely addition of projects which were accounts that could be shared between multiple users and quickly switched to for posting. Alas, we never wholeheartedly relaunched Indie Burst after v1.
It wasn't all for naught though, because this project allowed Bret and I to grow and learn a lot about web development and collaboration.
